Singing higher notes?

I can sing low notes well and everything. I am not much of a singer but i am trying my hardest to improve. But whenever i get to higher notes i choke a little and if i do it softer not loud it sounds alright but too "nice" if you know what i mean. It still sounds like crap. I have searched the internet and everything but that hasnt helped at all really! so someone help please!:] thanks so much
