Looking for a book but i dont know the title?

It was a story of a girl who lives in the aftermath of a nuclear bomb explosion. I remember in the story she has to tape up the house so the radiation cant get in but forgets to seal the fireplace and it comes through there. I think she also has a baby in it as well. i cant remember what the title is but i read it about 16 years ago so can anyone help?
